Microsoft ends Unix server dominance An unprecedented surge in sales of computer servers running Microsoft’s operating system has equaled those running Unix for the first time ever, according to market analyst IDC.
Ongoing demand to invest in new infrastructure has increased the global market 5.3 percent to $12.1 billion in the first quarter, effectively boosting the share of Windows-based servers to hold even with Unix at 35 per cent each. Read The Whole Article
SCO narrows loss in Q2 The SCO Group Inc. has reported a narrower loss in the second quarter, but said revenues also declined due to competition in the Unix server market.
The company has said that net losses for the quarter ended April 30 was $1.96 million, or 11 cents a share, compared to $14.73 million, or $1.04 a share, for the same period a year ago. Revenues fell to $9.3 million from $10.1 million a year ago. Read The Whole Article

Unix Porting Project to seek UK admin Peter Naulls, of the Unix Porting Project, has revealed that he is seeking a UK based project administrator to take over the day to day running of his porting initiative.
Peter will be heading for the soaring temperatures of California, USA, ditching overcast Cambridgeshire, in pursuit of "a real job" in time for August this year. Whilst waiting for his immigration Visa to arrive, Peter told UPP subscribers over the weekend that his move away from Europe is in order "to pursue a real job, meet family requirements, and enjoy significantly larger income than I could ever hope to get out of doing RISC OS work, as well as attempt to recoup the significant costs I've incurred by pursuing so much RISC OS work in the past few years." Unix decline extends SCO revenue drop The SCO Group's revenue continued to decline in its most recent quarter, but the company that launched a legal attack on Linux reported a narrower net loss compared with the year earlier.
For SCO's fiscal second quarter, which ended on 30 April, revenue declined to US$9.3m from US$10.1m a year earlier. Its net loss diminished from US$14.7m to US$2m. Read The Whole Article |
